yes... still burning

last update I had was here. The fire has now eaten TWICE that...

the information I have now is that the number is
almost 700,000ha burnt. seven. hundred. thousand. hectares...
gone.

but because it's not the city, and because it's not 'important' people
and they're not wearing fancy dresses up a red carpet
and it's not a story about gas plant set to make squillions for the Government
it hasn't made the news.

400,000 ha burnt... and still blazing...

It's been burning since New Years...
not long ago it had burnt out 350,000 ha...

It was a bit worrying how close it came in the last couple of days to Nanna's place... it has now burnt out about 400,ooo ha and is burning on roughly a 600km front, still blazing away. That is a lot of land completely cooked, and animals along the way. Nanna won't be going home until the weekend at the earliest. Stay safe to all those working in any way to do with the fire.

The fire is still not controlled and has burnt through more than 400,000ha on a perimeter of around 600km.

7kms from the homestead and still burning

update from this post. The fire is 7km away from the homestead last I heard, near the cemetary, and still uncontrolled. Everyone is working very hard. Sadly, not one word of this fire on any of the main city news stations, and it's been burning since New Years and has burnt well over 350,000 hectares. As seen in the previous link, that's a MASSIVE amount of land...

Perhaps if it was something that people could complain about (like the effects of the floods on the bananas), things might be different. However, just because the commercial news stations don't see it as worthy of screen time doesn't mean that people aren't keeping all those affected in their thoughts. Because all those who know, are. To all those involved in fighting the fires, or in the path of them.

Stay safe

My Nanna has been evacuated by helicopter. Her and her little dog are safe in town with Family, although town is now on alert and preparing too, according to the news. Another station owner has been out to Nanna's to check on the chooks and houses/homestead and all ok so far. Sending best stay safe wishes to everyone. So much land and animals gone. Hopefully homes and people stay safe.
