The Quinn update - latest claim to fame:
Quinn's latest claim to fame (apart from leaving his tongue out all day to see how long it takes to dry out then imitating a lizard) is that he can suck his big toe/s... glad he's not playing in the mud just yet ;) although it means you gotta act quick if he gets his foot in his poo at nappy change time!
------
I am seeking information on natural anti-inflammatories that can be taken (ingested)to relieve internal inflammation. So far seem to be (might be coincidence, hard to tell but grateful for whatever it is) that porridge (oats, used in bath for chickenpox), yoghurt, cammomile tea (blergh lol) and probiotics are making a difference. Yet to try paw paw. So if you have any recommendations of where to start looking, would be much appreciated! :D
------
Well, as I type I find myself with only a third of my hair left (lucky I had heaps to start with!) as a result of thyroid+post birth and possibly the other 'thing' that's going on at the moment. a good handful or two every time I brush, and more. Rather odd to run your hands through your hair and get mostly air - and when the wind blows to be able to feel it on your scalp!
This is not the symptom specifically that's led to the next para - the ones that have I'd rather not blog list them. Suffice to say they are not nice. I am being booked in for two procedures that require fasting intially, and pumping and dumping of feeds for 12 hours post proc - no date for appt yet. Thankfully, I have a lovely fellow breastfeeding Mum who is expressing feeds for Quinn. I can express but am really quite inefficient - I work best with a Baby on the breast LOL
Anyway, the symptoms that have prompted this procedure are usually one of the first signs I am pregnant, and they usually resolve on their own post birth. But not this time, which means they've been going on for over a year now which isn't the best thing. Blood tests and other samples meant further investigation. Thankfully haemoglobin and all the other abbreviations were fine it's just the 'other' ones that were questionable. SO that's coming up. I'm concerned for Quinn and my supply more than anything. Second to that is that I am hesitant to place myself in the 'trust' of someone else, while laying on a table. The last invasive procedure I had done they really hurt me and I am not keen to repeat that. Although the ones coming are different procedures and I will be sedated... it's still not something I'm keen on. I have had enough of people interfering with my body. I sent a list of my concerns in a note with the procedure consent forms - supply/deyhdration etc.
Even the appt with the neuro for a nerve test and needles in my leg sounds appealing in comparison LOL
Still it will be nice for things to be resolved if they can be. Even though I feel okay, I know I'm not getting enough for my body, it's really quite obvious, but thankfully still making enough milk for Quinn. It's quite fine tuned at the moment, the milk thing, so I really hope these procedures don't throw it out of whack, you know? And anyway, life goes on and stuff still needs doing.
So I am lucky to have the lovely M expressing for us, and offers from several others to pick up/bring me home re the procedures, as I won't be allowed to drive home, and Michal will have his first hours at home by himself with Quinn... in that sense I thought it would be easier for both of them to not have to interrupt their time with coming to pick me up etc Oddly enough on the procedure prep sheets, it says to 'not make important decisions or operate machinery' but hey, you can still care for your Baby!... hmmm...
Still, there are plenty dealing with much worse. Best of luck to anyone with something coming up!
See My Footprints initially began as Chapter 2 of losing Brenna. It's since evolved into a blog encompassing eco-thinking, attemps to get closer to self-reliance, kids, creating, baking, making, gardening and all manner of other ramblings.

What came home the other day...
Brooke has been very excited about what she's up to in craft at school. The other day she finished it and it came home... Can't wait to post a pic! eta here 'tis!

A crotchet drink carrier for her water bottle. As a size indicator, this is the largest size (1.2litres) Eco Tanka. A very practical creation, and just one of the many things they learn at school that I would really have liked to know how to do already ... I'm rather impressed with it and have put my order in ;)
eta I think that's the 'back' that I took a pic of, where the colour joins are... hmmm I'm sacked eh... will do another pic of the 'right' side maybe tomorrow.
I am also drooling over these things at Mama4earth (found the link on Down to Earth) and wishing I could knit like that! Brooke can LOL The items all look so well made, the knitting nice and even and heck, who could resist one of these eggs!

What Do You Do All Day?
A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pyjamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard.
The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog.
Proceeding Into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall.
In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing.
In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.
He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife.
He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened.
He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door.
As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor.
Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls.
As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pyjamas, reading a novel.
She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went.
He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?"
She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world I do all day?"
"Yes," was his incredulous reply.
She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it."!!!

The blunts on FLYlady
Righto. This is my take on it. People ask is it worth doing or not. Does it work?
Initially I thought here we go, another American self-help lalalala. So I kept plodding on getting nowhere and getting more frustrated and ... what's the word... discouraged? Where do I start? There's so much I want to do - not enough hours in the day... anyway... so one day I thought well, never never know if you never never try... right? So I did... and anything is better than where I am at now, right?
and even tho FLYlady says 'Babysteps, one day at a time or you'll crash and burn' I thought nope... I need it all sorted and sorted yesterday! So I took on the lot, I did ok for a week or so then yep I did crash and burn.
I started a second time and wasn't into it quite when we began the kitchen reno which basically took over the house. It's funny because I remember a time when I was a very organised person, definately with OCD tendencies (and still have some)... and yet here I was contemplating whether I 'needed' the FLYlady thing.
Third time round. I began here... Finally I was giving myself the chance to do it and succeed instead of trying to do the lot at once. Later, I did buy the book, 'Sink Reflections' and was hooked that weekened (we were away) and busting to get home and get started. (note that you don't need to buy anything - the site has everything you need)
And it's been working ever since... not perfect, but as FLYlady says, 'progress' which is what I'm after. Even if I don't FLY for a little bit, I'm still better of when I resume my FLYing, than having never done the FLY thing at all. I do LESS cleaning when I FLY. I can be company ready in 15-30mins when I FLY. Even if we're all sick, there's a new baby in the house... whatever, I can still FLY because it's not hours on end... 'just 15 minutes... I can do anything for 15 minutes'... yes?
This is what clinched it for me read the bit that says 'May all our homes be our own private Bed and Breakfast!'
Because why shouldn't we and our families, our children, be entitled to this not just company or when someone comes to stay?
I know it didn't get that way in a day and it won't get undone in a day either. I do know when I FLY it makes a massive difference and I notice it when I don't. I've changed the emails to 'digest' now so I only get one or two a day. I did try the 'Aus' yahoo email sender so that the reminders were in Aus time but they don't have the testimonials which is the bit I like the best about the emails. So I stuck to the US one, in digest form, read what I want then hit delete.
The other thing is, yes there are some things that are a little... whatever the word and yes it's quite 'US' BUT... that's a small thing to overlook for the benefits it gives me. Christmas 2007 I had everything for Christmas done pretty much effortlessly by the 1st November... And the funny thing is quite often I hear people who dismiss FLYlady or criticise it, then complain in another time about how bad their house is and how they wish they could do something about it.
As she says, it works, but only if you do it. Anyhoo... that's my take on FLYing. She's been there. Right at the bottom... and gotten herself out - and is sharing it for those who also want to get out of the bottom of the hole. Start at the beginning. one step at a time... shine your sink... What's to lose?

from my Jake...
Jake made this for me for Mother's Day. He said he ran out of room to finish the words (there was another couple of sentences). His name is down the bottom in yellow and I did take a pic of the outside of the card - blue water/wash Steiner-style with 'mum' written in the middle of it. Really did make my heart smile... it's currently on the fridge... not sure why the pic shows up slightly darker but the colours are a little 'brighter/happier' than they show up. He's a sweetie...
