I did have these up elsewhere but had taken them down for space. Over about 4 weeks in December 2006 (?) we renovated our kitchen. We saved HUGE amounts of money by removing the old kitchen ourselves, prepping as much as we could and then installing the new kitchen once the plumbing, electrical and wall removal/new doorways etc had been done.
The blow out for this project was the plumbing, which resulted in not just plumbing for the kitchen itself as you'd expect (which was located near the old ones so we thought we were saving money) but that the pipes in and out of the house to the kitchen were absoloutely disintegrated - meaning a huge trench dug up right across the floor in our back room, and out to under the clothesline (pavers up etc). The only useable rooms then were bedroom and bath, laundry and toilet and all cooking/washing up etc was done out the back on the bbq/back table. Kinda like camping except with running water and a toilet lol.
This with three children the youngest of whom was still in nappies, and me with my arthritis coming and going oh and trying to organise our Wedding that was set for February! It was good, actually. We did it and while there are still floor coverings, kickboards and paint on the walls to go, we're very pleased and resulted in a much more user-friendly and productive space. We originally had a small kitchen and small adjacent dining room that never got used. The actual working floor space in the old kitchen would be lucky to be 1mX2m.
So, as I find the pics I'll upload them here...
